The Toronto Raptors have their scoring ace set and under contract. Fred VanVleet finished tonight’s game versus the Orlando Magic with the franchise record for points, with 54 as the team won 123-108. He now is the record holder for the most points scored by an undrafted player, and is also the only undrafted player with a franchise scoring record.

VanVleet began the game shooting at a clip never before seen by the Raptors. His eight first-half three’s set a franchise record, but that was just the beginning for the guard. He would go on to make 11 three-point shots, which is the most by a player this season.

This performance makes Toronto’s decision to re-sign VanVleet likely look like a bargain. His four-year, 85 million-dollar contract was signed only a few months ago. Now, the team is turning things around after injuries and losses had the 2019 champions start the 2020-2021 season off on the wrong foot.

Twitter was quick to react to the news of VanVleet’s career-defining night for Toronto.

And of course, his teammates had to celebrate with him after his historic night.

February 2nd, amidst a global pandemic and unprecedented circumstances, Fred VanVleet has now put himself in the conversation of Raptors Legends. February 5th, VanVleet and the squad will match up with the most dominant offence the NBA has seen in years, as they face the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30pm, EST.
