After coming off a loss to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, the Toronto Raptors defeated the Houston Rockets in their third game of the NBA Summer League,  winning by a score of 92-76. The Raptors led this game the entire way and showed little signs of fatigue on the second night of a back-to-back . Toronto now has a 2-1 record as they hand Houston their first loss of Summer League play.

The story of tonight’s game was supposed to focus on the highly anticipated head-to-head matchup between Rockets’ second overall pick Jalen Green and Raptors’ fourth overall pick Scottie Barnes. However the matchup was cut short after Green left the game late in the second half and did not return after sustaining right hamstring soreness. Green left the game finishing with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 triples.

The Raptors were in control of this game from start to finish. They came out strong, shooting 45.7% from the field in the first half and continuing to push the pace of play on both ends of the floor.  Despite the Rockets going on a 14-0 run in the second quarter, the Raptors still held a 15 point lead going into halftime. The Raptors squad continued to contain the Rockets with impressive defensive plays, finishing the game with a team total 14 steals and 15 blocks.

Recently signed Ishmail Wainright had an impressive game and is making his case to secure a spot on the Raptors roster. He led the way for the Raptors with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 threes on an impressive 58% field goal percentage. He was also a big presence on the defensive end adding 4 steals and 2 blocks to his stats. Wainright was followed by newly acquired Precious Achiuwa who is already exciting Raptors fans with his play. He finished with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks on 8 of 11 shooting from the floor.

The Raps also received a defensive spark from second year point guard Malachi Flynn, who despite shooting only 35.7% from the field, finished with 3 steals.

It was a tough offensive night for Scottie Barnes who struggled to find his shot and only finished with 8 points. Barnes had left the game briefly in the second quarter, but returned to action and was a huge presence on the defensive end. He finished the game with a game-high of 5 blocks.

The Raptors continue Summer League action on Saturday night against the Charlotte Hornets. Make sure to tune into the game at 7:00PM EST on August 12th.
