Another fan vote tournament is in the books! This time around we asked Raptors fans across Instagram what the best Raptors jersey ever is. Even with all the variety and options that were offered, the final matchup still came down to the first two jerseys that the Raptors ever wore.
Close to 900 fans voted in just the final matchup alone and the inaugural purple jerseys have been crowned the best Raptors jersey ever after receiving 583 total votes.
In the comments section of the tournament posts, several fans made the argument for the 2018-2019 red North jerseys, as they were the uniforms that the Raptors captured their first NBA title in. While that may be the most memorable moment in franchise history, there are still some memorable moments from the dino logo era as well.
Feb. 5, 1999: Vince Carter’s Rookie Debut
The first time Toronto legend Vince Carter put on a Raptors uniform, he was wearing the inaugural purple jerseys. Right from the start, you could tell that Carter was going to be an electrifying athletic talent. In his first game in the NBA, Carter played 31 minutes, scored 16 points, and shot 5-11 from the field.
March 24. 1996: Toronto Raptors defeat Michael Jordan and the Bulls
Throughout the 1990s, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were absolutely dominant. Widely regarded as one of the best teams in NBA history, the 1995-1996 Bulls went 72-10 in the regular season. What most people may not remember is that the Raptors were actually one of the teams that handed the Bulls one of their ten losses that season, and they did it in the inaugural white jerseys too.
The Raptors have changed up their jerseys and logo design so many times over the past 25-plus years. But still, the most recognizable logo and colour scheme remains the original. Back in 2012, the Toronto Blue Jays went back to their original logo with a modern design, and I for one, am still hoping to see the first Raptor dinosaur logo brought back in a modernized way as well.
