Sure the Toronto Raptors had a great night on the court but the biggest story was the NBA’s first-ever all-women broadcast on TSN.
I’ll spare the full introductions as we went in-depth on each woman’s journey and career before the game, but a quick overview of their roles.
Kate Beirness was the in-studio host of the broadcast, Amy Audibert provided analysis in studio, and Kayla Grey handled interviews and voiced a fantastic feature on the strength of Canadian basketball.
Meghan McPeak was on play-by-play and Kia Nurse gave play-by-play analysis.
From the jump it was a roaring success with each woman shining in their respective role. Audibert’s pre-game segment breaking down the Raptors late rotations on defence was a highlight early on.
I could give you my analysis (pretty simple: they were fantastic throughout and I think fans are better for having got the chance to experience it), but let’s see what others thought: (spoiler alert: it was a hit)
It was an unbelievably inspiring night for so many women who are working their way through the sports media landscape to see other women in positions that are traditionally occupied by men.
The broadcast got a nice shoutout from the Prime Minister as well.
The night finished with the Greatest Raptor of All-Time shouting out the women who gave us such a wonderful experience.
I think I speak for everyone when I say thank you to Kate Beirness, Amy Audibert, Kayla Grey, Meghan McPeak, and Kia Nurse along with all of the other fantastic women behind the scenes at TSN for a historic night and I truly hope we see it again.
